I loved this story! There are so many things that can be learned from it. But the biggest lesson for me was when Aunt Rose said "There is enough that doesn't go right in life, so anyone can work themselves into a puddle of pessimism and a mess of melancholy. But I know people who, even when things don't work out, focus on the wonders and miracles of life. These folks are the happiest people I know." If you look at what the world focuses on, it is usually what is going wrong in the world. Lately, I have found it is easy to get down about life, and where our world is headed. But, I have also noticed, that I can easily get myself out of feeling discourage by looking at the beauties of the earth, or by focusing on the blessings in my life.
Aunt Rose also said, "...God didn't design us to be sad. He created us to have joy! So if we trust Him, He will help us to notice the good, bright, hopeful things of life." I think it is important to remember that we were created to have joy. That's easier said than done sometimes, but if we remember to recognize the hand of God in our lives when things are going well, we will also be able to recognize the hand of God in our lives when things are not going well.
