"The companionship of the Holy Ghost makes what is good more attractive and temptation less compelling. That lone should be enough to make us determined to qualify for the Spirit to be with us always." I think we all have times in our lives when this is really evident. For me it was when I went through the temple, went on my mission (No wonder, you do spiritual stuff all day), when I got married, and when I had Grant. Normal temptations for me weren't even temptations at all. What a great feeling that is. During college, I LOVED learning and hearing about President Eyring's father. I'm glad he brought him up in his talk. That story of wanting to attend church and following impressions for an HOUR before finding a service was incredible. I also loved how he said of his father, "Much of what he did in chemistry came from seeing in his mind's eye molecules moving about and then confirming his vision by experiments in a laboratory. But he had followed a different course to discover the truths that mattered most to him and to each of us. Only through the Holy Ghost can we see people and events as God sees them." Sometimes its hard to see people as God does but I'm glad the Holy Ghost can help us, its helped me to try to see people they way God does, not the way they come off to my temporal eyes and mind.
I loved how President Eyring spoke about the many ways that the Holy Ghost can aid us. There were a lot of great promises in this talk. One that I really liked was, "If we partake of the sacrament in faith, the Holy Ghost will then be able to protect us and those we love from the temptations that come with increasing intensity and frequency." I know there has been a big push to keep the Sabbath Day holy, and to take the sacrament more seriously. By take the sacrament in faith, we not only have the Holy Ghost's protection for ourselves, but for those we love as well. I have never thought that by partaking of the sacrament, I could also be helping those I love.
Robyn mentioned one of the other promises, that by having the Holy Ghost good becomes more attractive, and temptation becomes less attractive. That's another great promise.
He also said, "Our human reason and the use of our physical senses will not be enough. We live in a time when even the wisest will be hard-pressed to distinguish truth from clever deception." And "...we need a constant influence of the Spirit of Truth to spare us moments of doubt." I love the wording of constant influence. It made me think, "Do I let the Holy Ghost influence me? Is it a constant in my life?" I know that as I do the things I need to do to have that constant companionship, that the Holy Ghost can help me come out on top in this confusing world we live in.
